Xorg Setup

There is still a utility that uses xorgcfg, for a text-mode update of the xorg.conf file. You can run it from the gui, as it runs in an xterm (and it is under CONFIGURATION > XORG SETUP)

However, I am convinced that generally speaking the newer X -setup does a better job, and its results are what the Screen Ajuster likes to use. You WILL NOT see X -setup in the menu, as it is run from the console and uses a wrapper script called absx.

It is most useful if you change video cards or monitors. Naturally, you would have the machine off when you change one of those -- so when you reboot the machine, log in as root and DO NOT type startx. Instead, run absx. This will re-run the X -setup utility and back up the old (giving you a command to type in to restore the old, if there is a problem.) When it is done type startx to text it out. Usually it works quite nicely.

I did not want to go TOO overboard writing an X configuration utility, as the scuttlebut is that the next release of Xorg is to include a new one. -- Happy days for all!
